Lets Talk Magic Circles!

A magic circle (or magic ring) is a super handy crochet trick for starting projects in the round, like hats, amigurumi, coasters, or anything else that’s circular. It helps you avoid that little hole in the middle that can happen if you start with a chain ring.

What Is It?

  • You make a loose loop of yarn and crochet your first stitches into it (usually single or doubke crochets if you’re doing amigurumi).
  • Then you pull the yarn tail tight, and voilà—the hole in the center disappears!

Why Use It?

  1. No Hole: It makes a seamless, closed center that looks neat and tidy.
  2. Adjustable: You can tighten it as much as you want, so it’s perfect for projects where gaps are a no-no.
  3. Versatile: It works for all kinds of circular projects, from cute little stuffed animals to big crochet rugs.

It might feel a little fiddly at first, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never want to go back to starting with a chain circle!
